Garuda

2019

Pen and pencil on toned paper

58 x 45 cm

Garuda is Vishnu’s eternal carrier (Vahana) and devotee. In Vaishnava temples, he is found facing the main temple sanctum.

This drawing is inspired by the Garuda located in the mandapa (pillared hall) at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam in South India. The form of Garuda at Srirangam is unique in its massive size and pose.

The original artwork is available.
